VOLTMETER

Voltmeter is an instrument that measures voltages of either direct or alternating electric current on a scale usually graduated in volts, millivolts -0.001 volt, or kilovolts 1,000 volts.

It is an electronic instrument for the measurement of the electric potential difference between two conductors

An ideal voltmeter has infinite resistance: It is an open circuit. Actually it is very difficult to make a physical voltmeter with infinite resistance, therefore a well designed voltmeter exhibits a very large internal input resistance

Analog voltmeter consists of a sensitive galvanometer (current meter) in series with a high resistance

Digital voltmeter shows voltage directly as numerals
